Surendra Lakhan

Mr. Surendra Lakhan, 69, of Arleta, California, passed away unexpectedly Sunday morning on March 11, 2018.
Surendra was born on April 29, 1948 in Suva, Fiji, a son of the late Ram and Annie (Wilson) Lakhan.
He graduated from Brigham Young University, Hawaii in 1974 with a degree in Biological Sciences. For 12 years, he served his country in the US Army and National Guard. He married Sunita (Maharaj) Lakhan on December 7, 1981 and together they had 2 sons, Sharun in 1982 and Shaheen in 1985. Surendra worked for the Sepulveda VA Medical Center as an EEG technologist until he suffered a devastating stroke at the age of 44. His children remember him as a kind, gentle, and jovial father who encouraged them to pursue their life goals. It was this encouragement that drove his youngest son, Shaheen, to accomplish his dream to become a neurologist, for which Surendra was very proud.
In addition to spending time with his family, Surendra enjoyed an eclectic array of music, photography, his dogs and cats, and the outdoors; at any hour of the day, he could be found outside in the courtyard sunbathing in nature’s beauty. He was an active and dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Surendra is survived by his wife, Sunita; children, Sharun and Shaheen Lakhan; and brother, Anil Lakhan. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ram and Annie Lakhan, his brother, Edwin Lakhan, and sister, Maya (Lakhan) Prasad.
A viewing is scheduled on Friday, March 16th, from 8:30am to 10:30am at the Granada Hills California Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (11315 White Oak Ave, Granada Hills, California), followed by church service from 11:00 to 11:50am. Bishop Robert Snook will officiate the ceremony. This will be followed by a witnessed cremation from 1:00 to 1:30pm at Grand View Memorial Park (1341 Glenwood Rd, Glendale, California). A luncheon will take place at the Church from 2:00 to 3:30pm. Those not witnessing cremation may remain at Church until luncheon. A military funeral will take place at the Riverside National Cemetery (22495 Van Buren Blvd, Riverside, California) at 10:30am on Tuesday, March 20th. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Surenda's life.
