Bauji was born on June 20, 1929 in Indore, India to Onkarlal Khandelwal and Ratanbai. He was the first in his family to attend college and worked hard to educate himself with multiple degrees in Commerce and Economics, followed by Law and Chartered Accountancy. He was incredibly successful running an accounting firm, followed by a stint as an investor and a philanthropist.
Bauji balanced his professional pursuits with yoga, meditation, tennis, classical music and other intellectual and spiritual pursuits. Bauji was a connoisseur of fine arts and enjoyed all that life had to offer from theater to live performances. He loved his country club, playing bridge and orderly afternoons. He was always punctual, reliable and took his responsibilities seriously.
As an ardent believer in the power of education to transform lives, Bauji supported foundations that helped thousands of tribal people get access to education, health care and the support to live a fulfilling life. Bauji also saw the plight of cancer patients who lost their livelihoods fighting the dreaded disease and sponsored treatment for many patients. Some of the non-profits that were close to Bauji’s heart and supported by him included Nana Palkar Smruti, Opentree Foundation, Indian Medical Association, Dilasa Sanstha, Mahan Trust, National Burns Centre and Snehalaya.
Bauji will be remembered as a loving, caring and generous person with a gentle soul, who lived several lifetimes in one life.
A memorial will be held Monday, December 3, 2018 at 10:00 am at the Grand View Memorial Park Chapel in Glendale, CA.
