Ruth Dockens

Ruth Melba Dockens was born on March 11, 1926 and went home to heaven on October 8, 2017 at the age of 91. Ruth was born in Long Beach, California to Ova and Elam Mires. She had two younger sisters, Lorella, and Marian. Ruth was raised in the San Gabriel Valley. She graduated from Alhambra High School and attended Pasadena City College. She married Emmett Lewin Dockens on February 18, 1946 and began married life in the Culver City area of Los Angeles. They were married 71 years. They had two children, Jerry Lewin Dockens, and Judy Melba Thomas. She had 5 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Ruth and Lewin moved to the San Fernando Valley in 1956 and lived in the same home they built together for the next 60 years.
Ruth was involved in community work. She was on the Coordinating Council of the San Fernando Valley, participated in the Rotary Club in the San Fernando Valley and Indio, California along with her husband Lewin. A devout Christian, Ruth was active the the Church of Christ at various locations in the San Fernando Valley and Indio, California. She was an gardener and worked diligently in her yard and garden ever day.
She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her. She was one of kind. Devoted to family and her God and we are confident she will be weeding in God’s garden in the sky. Per her wishes, there will be no graveside service. We will be having a celebration of Life event in the near future and look forward to seeing all of her loved ones there. We will send out invitations once the planning is complete.
