Rosemary Hasenbalg, 85, of West Hills, California, passed away on April 10, 2024, after a heroic 30-year battle with cancer. Except for close family, few who knew her were aware of the seriousness of her illness, as she refused to let cancer slow her down until the very end. She fought with a form of dignity and courage that inspired all who know of the battle.
Rosemary was born on October 1, 1938, to Olson and Florence Beasley (nee Del Grippo) in Newark, New Jersey. After moving to the San Fernando Valley as a teenager, Rosemary met and married Ralph Hasenbalg, an electrical engineer from the University of Colorado, Boulder, in 1958. They met on a blind date arranged by a work colleague of Ralph, and as Ralph put it, “That was the end of my single life.” They started their married life in Santa Barbara, California, and eventually settled in the San Fernando Valley, where Rosemary graduated from California State University, Northridge, and received her master’s degree in psychology at Pepperdine University, while raising her family.
Rosemary had a long career as a licensed behavioral health and social services provider, owning and operating her own client practice for many years. She retired in 2018 after more than 30 years serving the health needs of others.
Throughout her life, Rosemary enjoyed travel and new cultural experiences. She enthusiastically visited far-away places like Australia, New Zealand, Italy, the UK, China, and safaried in Tanzania. She loved theater and literature. She was passionate about history and genealogy and spent countless hours researching her own family’s past and discovering new connections. She remained active her entire life, enjoying daily walks and spending time in the garden. Rosemary cherished her many friendships. She was one of those people who made friends easily and kept them close forever. She felt deeply about spending meaningful time with friends, talking, listening, caring, sharing, and loving.
Rosemary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister. Her family and friends will deeply miss her intelligence, her quick wit and sense of humor, and her unending devotion to them. She is survived by Ralph, her husband of 65 years, their daughter Stacee Hasenbalg and her husband Bahram Forouhi, their son Craig Hasenbalg and his wife Jackie, two grandchildren, Benjamin Hasenbalg and Anneliese Hasenbalg, her brother, Carl Beasley and sister-in-law Linda, her brother Byron ("Butch") Beasley and sister-in-law Dale, her aunt Mary Del Grippo, and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and more friends than can be counted.
Private services will be held, and in lieu of flowers donations can be made to, the American Cancer Society.
