Born February 6, 1931 in Chicago Illinois, Raymond Lee Nelson entered the presence of the Lord on October 18, 2019 at the age of 88. Ray grew up and lived in Chicago with his father John and mother Helen. After his father returned from naval duty on the USS Iowa during WWII, they relocated to North Hollywood, California when Ray was 15.
He married Jenneane Klein on June 16 in 1961 after meeting in the First Methodist Church of Van Nuys. After first graduating from Los Angeles Community College with an AA degree, he then graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1967, six days after the birth of his third and youngest child, Jeffrey.
He worked for 32 years at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power during which time he became a certified Professional Engineer, working as both a civil and a corrosive engineer. After retirement he remained active with National Association of Corrosive Engineers (NACE).
Ray is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jenneane, his son Jeffrey and daughter in-law Cecily, six grandchildren - Brendan, Chandler, Ian, Kalene, Kristine, and Stephanie - and his brother & sister-in-law Joseph and Judith Cirri. He was proceeded by his two daughters Colleen and Heather. Ray was a beloved and faithful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend that will be missed by all that knew and loved him. May the Lord bring us all, one day, to a joyous reunion.
