Michael Thomas Hilliger peacefully passed away on June 15, 2020 of cardiac arrest. He was the oldest son of William and Joan Hilliger born on June 13, 1947. He graduated from Notre Dame High School, Sherman Oaks, CA in 1965 and traveled for 6 months all over Europe on his motorcycle. Upon returning to the states, he worked for a moving company and drove a tow truck. In 1972, Michael joined the Los Angeles Fire Department. Over the years he moved up through the ranks, loving his jobs and the comradery with fellow firefighters. He retired in 1999 as a Captain II and also served the department for 30 years as a Chaplain.
Michael married Carrie Mae Barden in 1975. They built their home in Van Nuys, CA, where they raised their three children.
He was a long time member of Grace Community Church of Sun Valley. Michael served as a deacon, elder and teacher. Many years were spent working in the youth department.
He is survived by his wife Carrie of 45 years, son Joshua (Laina) Hilliger, grandchildren Kaylen, Weston, Wyatt, Ellis and Drew; daughter Jennie (Nelson) Diaz, grandchildren McKinley, Jacobson, Madison and Kennedy; son Jonathon (Taylor) Hilliger, grandson due in October; brother Patrick Hilliger.
Michael was proceeded in death by his parents and brother Stephen Hilliger.
A celebration of Michael's life will be held on August 15, 2020 10am at Grace Community Church located at 13248 Roscoe Blvd, Sun Valley CA 91352
