Lidia Popova

Lidia Vladimirovna Popova was born in Moscow, Russia on May 4th 1937. She passed away peacefully at the age of 82 years old in her Northridge home on March 14th 2020. Lidia was the daughter of an army general, Vladimir Fedorovich Popov and homemaker Natalia Yakovlina Smetannikova. Lidia’s mother passed away when she was two years old. When World War Two started her father went to defend the country. She was four years old when World War Two started in the USSR in 1941. She was raised by her aunt Alexandra Fedorovna Popova during the time of the war. She had an older sister who was six years older than her, Raiisa Vladimirovna Popova. During her difficult childhood she saw a lot of hardships of the people in her country, but she maintained a positive outlook on life. At an early age of 8 years old she had a passion for sewing clothes and sewn her first dress. Her father returned from the war in 1945 when she was 8 years old. She loved her father very much and spoke about him everyday up until her last day. She was married at the age of 18 to Genadiy Ivanovich Baronin, he also was an army general. In 1956 at the age of 19, Lidia became a mother to her only daughter Natalia. She and Lidia were best friends, and companions until the very end. They traveled together, explored life together, enjoyed going to cinemas, ballets, and theaters. Throughout her life, she worked as a master seamstress and clothing designer in Moscow. She learned the French technique of sewing taught to her by one of Yves Saint Laurent’s student. Her work was featured in many glamour magazines in Russia and other parts of the world. She became a grandmother in 1975 at the young age of 37, when her grandson Roman was born. Being a grandmother was her most favorite duty in the world. She traveled with her grandson every summer to the Black Sea. She became a grandmother a second time at age of 55 when her first granddaughter Rose was born in Los Angeles in 1992. She traveled the first time to America meet Rose. She moved to Los Angeles permanently in 1994 when her third grandchild, who named in her honor, Lida was born. Lidia passed down her talent of sewing and cross stitching to her two granddaughters. She taught all three of her grandchildren love, respect, kindness towards others, to never abandon anyone in desperate times,and to respect nature. She became a great grandmother in 2006 when her grandson Roman had a son named Roman. She has three great grandchildren from her grandson; Roman, Alexandra, and Sophia. She was very happy that she met all three of her great grandchildren and spent time quality with them. She was a motherly figure to many people and had a positive impact on everyone she met. She was very energetic, lively, and friendly. She always had a smile on her face and never complained when something was wrong. She lived everyday to her fullest. She was very religious and enjoyed going to church every Sunday with her granddaughter Lida. She loved animals, people, and all that life had to offer. She was an amazing daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and pet parent. She will be greatly missed and loved by everyone that had came into contact with her in her life. May her soul rest peacefully.
