Larry Dean Basnett was born on May 5th, 1940, and passed away on October 3rd, 2024. Born in Hillsboro, Kansas, Larry joined the U.S. Navy in 1960, where he served aboard the U.S.S. Kearsarge when it was the recovery ship for the Mercury space missions. Just over a year after enlistment, Larry met his one and only love, Navy Typist, Patricia Hubbs. They were married on September 22, 1961, and enjoyed a wonderful inseparable life, full of adventure, for 54 years. He was a loving father to his children: Daughters Helen Woods, Kathy Fitzgerald, Michelle D’Amato, and his son Larry Basnett Jr. He was also a beloved grandfather of Jessica Blair, Tad D’Amato, Elizabeth Leathers, Justyn Fitzgerald, Patrick Fitzgerald, Preston Fitzgerald, Katelyn Fitzgerald, and Larry Basnett III. He will be forever missed by his siblings Tony Basnett and Debbie Outman, and the many other family members touched by Larry’s compassionate heart and playful sense of humor.
Larry was passionate about God, Jesus, and helping people throughout his life. After the Navy, Larry ministered with his wife at Osborne Neighborhood Church, Arleta CA where he pastored for many years. Larry was a caring pastor who could always be relied upon to visit the sick and injured, provide guidance and support to others, and to marry a couple in love - including all three of his daughters and two of his granddaughters! Larry deeply enjoyed the medical field, remnants of his time in the Navy as a Corpsman, which occasionally led him back to work in the hospital as a phlebotomist, medical technologist, and laboratory manager. Larry also had a heart for the mission field, and, after his children were grown, was able to do so with Patricia serving at the Foundation for His Ministry, in Guerrero, Mexico.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Larry has touched, are invited to the Memorial service on November 2nd, 1 pm, at Osborne Neighborhood Church, 13501 Osborne St, Arleta, CA 91331, with a reception to follow.
Larry lived a full life and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family asks those who wish to express sympathy to consider flowers or donating to Osborne Neighborhood Church, where Larry was a pastor for over 35 years.
