Josephine Arteaga who was also known as “Josie”or “Charro”, was born on November 14th, 1928 in Glendale CA. She was the 5th of ten children and grew up in Canoga Park. She went to Eton Ave Elementary and to Canoga Park high school. As a teenager her and the family would travel to Northern California to work in the fields picking fruit and walnuts. In the 60’s is when she started working for RCA Victor in Van Nuys, CA. She worked there for about 29 years. Then she worked for Littons where she retired in 1991.
Josephine was a family person, she loved to cook for others and continued her mother’s tradition of hosting family dinner every Saturday night for her siblings, kids and grandkids.
Josephine had 3 children Lupe, Joseph, and Peter. Peter unfortunately passed in October of 1995 which was a huge loss and heartbreak for her.
She also had 10 grandkids, 11 great grandkids and 1 great great grandchild . After retiring she devoted her life to taking care of her grandkids. She also loved to spend time shopping at the grocery and dept. stores. Every morning she would let her daughter Lupe know she was “going on her rounds” as she would say.
Every Friday she also would go to the San Fernando cemetery with her sister Tina to go visit Peter, her mom, “Granny”, and other family members that would also be buried there.
She continued these errands until she was 90 years old and could no longer drive.
She lived a long beautiful life. And touched a lot of peoples heart with how much she cared for others. She will be missed by so many.
