Eugene Charles “Chuck” Alvarez
September 10, 1928 - February 16, 2018
Beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Preceded in death by his beloved wife Patricia; survived by his children Thomas, Elizabeth, Raymond, and Christina; by a large extended family; and by many dear friends.
Chuck and his family lived on Valley Circle since the 1960s.
A Navy veteran of WWII, Chuck enlisted at age 15 and served in the Pacific theater. His rating as a Radioman led him to a career in electronics education, research, and publication. Chuck was a member of the first graduating class from Cal State Northridge, and taught at Pierce College for most of his career. Later, he co-founded a school for vocational electronics training, and then went on to own and manage travel agencies. In his career as a writer, Chuck’s publications spanned many decades and genres, from scientific texts in the 1960s to literary fiction in the 2000s.
Chuck’s real vocation was as a father, uncle, and official and unofficial godfather. Not only his children and grandchildren, but also nieces, nephews, and young friends could unfailingly count on him for guidance, support, and especially unconditional love.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 25, starting at 5:30 pm, with a Vigil service at 7:30, at Crawford Mortuary in Northridge.
Funeral Mass 10:00 am, Monday, 2/26, St. Bernardine of Siena Catholic Church, Woodland Hills.
