Kay Lawrence, formerly Beverly Kay Gulick, lived fiercely from July of 1935 to May 12th of 2018. She was born to Bernice and Frank Gulick of Ithaca, Michigan, with one sister, Vera May, 2 step brothers, Lynn and Ronald Gruesbeck. She met John Lawrence in New York City and moved to California to raise a family. Kay was active. Active in church, active in the community, active in her family. Kay was opinionated, about church, about her community and about her family. She charmed and cajoled, she fought for women’s rights and she protested injustice, "force of nature" was a common theme from commenters hearing of her death.
She rooted! She rooted for the San Fernando Tigers and for the Dodgers, for UCLA and any Michigan team. Grammee Kay rooted for a sandwich shop manager, a map-maker, a para-legal, a mechanic, a dog-lover, a baseball player, a piano player and a red-headed baseball player. She loved to read. She read the LA Times, she read the New Yorker, she read scripture to her friend with little vision and she read stories to all the children. Kay loved. She loved politics and feminism, she loved her church, she loved her scotch, Kay loved her friends and her family, fiercely. A memorial service will be held at her church, First Presbyterian Church of Encino, May 27th, at 4pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the same or New Theological Seminary of West http://ntswest.org/
