Barbara Jean Thunell (Boothroyd), age 94, of Winnetka, California, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2024. Born on January 5, 1930, in Royal Oak, Michigan, Barbara's journey began with a passion for storytelling that she cultivated while attending Muskingum University in Ohio. This foundation led to an early career typing scripts at CBS's Television City, where she thrived during the golden age of television.
She met her beloved husband, Arthur Thunell, in New York, where they were married in July 1958. Shortly thereafter they moved to Southern California where they welcomed and raised their 3 children: Gary, Karen, and Bill.
As a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Barbara found immense joy in her family. She cherished every moment spent with her eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, capturing many precious memories through candid photography during family gatherings.
Barbara held a deep belief in the importance of community and connection, which was evident in her active participation at Epiphany Lutheran Church and Faith Lutheran Church. Her engagements in these communities were a testament to her enduring spirit.
Her interests extended beyond family and faith; Barbara was a lifelong fan of comedian Jack Benny. Her enthusiasm for classic humor led her to contribute actively to the International Jack Benny Fan Club. Additionally, her love for animals was clear in her care for her beloved dog, Charlie, and her support of various animal welfare organizations.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, her parents, Harold and Margaret Boothroyd, as well as her sister Marjorie “Marge” and brother Douglas. She is survived by her brother Donald, and her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service to celebrate Barbara’s remarkable life will take place at Faith Lutheran Church and Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery on January 17, 2025, at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice.
Barbara will be remembered for her warmth, wit, and unwavering love for her family and community. She touched the lives of many and leaves behind a cherished legacy of connection and kindness.
