Arlene Sue Kaminsky Noel was a Midwestern girl with a sunny disposition who happily landed in sunny Los Angeles. Arlene passed away peacefully of natural causes on May 17, 2022 in Moorpark, CA. Born into a large and thriving Indianapolis family on February 28, 1930; her parents were Jeanne and Morris Kaminsky; and she grew up surrounded by loving grandparents and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, particularly on her mother’s Wides family side. Arlene graduated with a bachelor of science degree in teaching from Indiana University (Bloomington) and remained a lifelong devotee of the school. While at IU, she was active in the Sigma Delta Tau sorority and served as its President. Shortly thereafter, she met Alfred M. Mintz who was doing his residency in orthopedic surgery at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis. They married and had two children: Anne (Edward Damm husband and children Jessie Exilus (Patrice husband), Edward (Shelby wife and daughter Lilliana) and Susan); and Robbie (Candace wife and children Michael (Allie), Joseph (Julia) and Phoebe). After a series of medical profession-related moves to Milwaukee and Iowa City, they settled first in Hammond and then Munster, Indiana. Arlene also received a Masters Degree in social work from Valparaiso University and worked with less fortunate children in Northwest Indiana for a number of years. After a divorce, Arlene moved to Los Angeles, California in 1978 to be near her brother, Allen Kane (formerly Kaminsky), and his family, most notably Jefferson, her nephew. Arlene fortuitously met the love of her life, Channing O. Noel, while in LA and they began a warm and delightful 30+ year marriage until Chan passed away in 2013. Arlene became a “Valley Girl” when she and Chan happily lived in Van Nuys. Chan had three children of his own: Mark (Sharon wife and children Mark, Jesse, Casey and four grandchildren); Victoria (Dennis); and Eric. Arlene and Chan were very active in The Central Lutheran Church and First Lutheran Church (Life House), and Arlene continued her career in social work for most of her adult life. Arlene enjoyed poetry and English literature. Arlene’s sweet, kind and, again, sunny disposition will be missed by all of her friends and family.
