Alice Jayne Taylor was born May 11, 1939 to Jay Edward and Goldie Eileen (Busing) Downes in Weston, Illinois, the third of five children. She graduated Chenoa High School in May 1957 and married Donald E Taylor on June 1st of that year. She worked for Grey Metal and the Pontiac Chair Factory. She bore two children, a boy, Don Jr. and a girl, Kara Lynn. In 1963, the family moved from Illinois to California.
Alice’s first job in California was as a bookkeeper for Lance Moving and Storage. She was next similarly employed at Southland Aviation, a flight school located at Whiteman Airport. While there both she and Don earned their private pilots licenses. Alice next worked for Aircraft & Helicopter Supply.
In the mid-1970’s Alice earned her Associate’s degree at Los Angeles Valley College.
Alice then went to work as an Accountant for Dolco Packaging. During this time she also became PADI certified and enjoyed many weekends scuba diving. Later After that she worked as a Consultant/Controller for both CTS Cement and Ansett Aircraft Spares & Services.
In 1999, she retired to spend more time with her husband, splitting the year between their ranch in Darby, Montana and home in Sun Valley, California.
Alice enjoyed time with family and friends. She and her family had regular camping trips to the Sequoias, High Sierras, and Lake Isabella; and nearly annual summer trips back to Illinois to visit family. Alice loved to entertain and was a fabulous cook. For 28 consecutive years, the 1st Saturday in October was reserved for an annual wild game bar-b-que.
Alice was preceded by her brother, Jay Jr. and is survived by her husband Don, her children Don (Lisa) Taylor Jr, Granada Hills, CA, and Kara (Mike) Tosti, Granada Hills, CA, grandson, Mitchell (Andrea) Tosti, Castaic, CA, three sisters, Aurel (Robert) Ellis, Pontiac, IL, Doris (Gene) Jankowski, Bainbridge Island, WA, Patricia (Jim) Mohr, Lexington, IL, sister-in-law Doris (Rocke) Downes, Chenoa, IL, and their families.
