Alberta Minnie Lee DeHaven was peacefully called to rest Sunday, August 8, 2021.
She was born on October 29, 1931 in Roanoke, Virginia. She was one of three children born to the late James C. Fuller and Minnie Covington Hall Fuller. Alberta was the youngest of the three, which included Josie and James, Jr.
She married the late Arthur Preston DeHaven in 1948. They had three children, Arthureen, Myra and Leonard. As a housewife and Air Force spouse, she traveled around the world, even giving birth to her youngest child, Leonard, in Tokyo, Japan.
In 1962 the family moved to Portland, Oregon where the couple continued to raise their children. For 55 years Alberta lived in what is now known as the Alberta Arts District in N. E. Portland. She was one of the last original members of the district’s black community. In 2017, she moved to Los Angeles, California to be with her daughter, Myra Foster.
Alberta was full of love and humor and was a joy to her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Preceding her in death were her siblings Catherine Hall Corpening, Ethel Hall Jones and Bud Hall, as well as Josie Lane and James Fuller, Jr.; daughter, Arthureen Furgassa, and son, Leonard Preston DeHaven.
Alberta leaves behind precious memories to: her daughter Myra Foster; son-in-law Dwayne Foster, grandchildren; Tsige Lenssa St. Ledger (Robert), Solomon Furgassa, Krysta Arthureen Foster, Kylie Lynn Foster; great grandchildren, Jeremiah Arthur Furgassa, Solomon David Furgassa, Jr., and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
