PHYLLIS COLVIN CAMPBELL
Phyllis M. (McCluer) Colvin Campbell
Phyllis Colvin Campbell, of Friendly Valley (Newhall), celebrated her 89th birthday on Monday, June 19; and passed into new life on Wednesday, June 21, 2017. Born in Pomona, California, to Rev. P. Meredith McCluer and Maude Esther McCluer, she lived her entire life in southern California. She and her three brothers lived in a lot of different places in southern California as their Christian minister father and mother moved among various different church assignments during the depression. She married the love of her life, Walter R. Colvin, Jr., in 1949, and raised four sons in Tujunga, Westchester, Encino and Van Nuys; becoming active at Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Van Nuys (later to become Church of the Valley). She found her vocational calling in nursing, working first at West Valley Community Hospital in Encino, and then at Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys as an L.V.N. After 35 years of marriage, she lost her husband to his heart disease in 1984. She soon thereafter moved to Friendly Valley (Newhall), lived for a few years in Buellton, and then returned to Friendly Valley. She married William S. Campbell in 1996, ultimately being widowed again in 2002.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Walter R. Colvin, Jr.; her second husband, William S. Campbell; a great-grandson, Rand Colvin; her parents and two of her three brothers. She is survived by her four sons and their wives, her ten grandchildren, seven of her eight great-grandchildren, and one of her three brothers.
She was born to be a caregiver. She loved being a wife. She loved being a mother. She loved being a grandmother. She loved being a nurse. She will be missed by her family and friends after a life well lived.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at Friendly Valley Community Church, 19246 Avenue of the Oaks, Newhall (Friendly Valley), CA 91321; under the care of Crawford Mortuary.
